GREEN METAL

ENDLESS RECYCLABILITY

Aluminum is often referred to as the “green metal” due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and long lifespan. When aluminum is recycled, it can be melted down and reformed without losing quality. By using recycled aluminum, we save energy and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Although primary aluminum production is energy-intensive, its infinitely recyclable nature makes it an excellent choice for minimizing carbon footprints. Recycling aluminum not only conserves resources but also aligns with the goal of achieving a low-emission world.

SPEEDSET & 3A COMPOSITES GmbH

SpeedSet uses the aluminium composite panels from 3A Composites GmbH for it's wall segments. They consist of two aluminium cover sheets and a core material. The panels sandwich structure gives the product its exceptional properties such as flatness, rigidity, strength, and an extremely light weight.

RECYCLING THE PANELS

When these panels reach the end of their “Lifespan,” either through continuous “wear-and-tear” due to building many Film-sets or through damage etc. , 3A Composites collect and recycle the “worn-out” panels. All aluminium composite panels from 3A Composites are fully recyclable, therefore, both the core material and the aluminium cover sheeting can be returned to the recycling-loop.

Re-usage

Thanks to the high-grade alloy EN AW-5005A (AlMg1), the secondary aluminium can be reused for high-quality alloys. It is either fed back into the cycle, or is used to produce sheet metal and profiles. The core materials can be used in various applications after being processed into granulate/pellets. First and foremost, 3A Composites is seeking to reuse the plastic core in the production of aluminium composite panels. In addition, the granulate is also available on the open market for applications such as grass pavers or heavy-duty profiles.

Setting Goals

Quotation from 3A Composites GmbH:

We are actively engaged in the recycling of aluminium composite panels by building a recycling network of as many recycling and collection companies as possible. As part of our mission “TOGETHER RESPONSIBLE,” we have set ourselves the goal to reclaim and incorporate as many used panel materials as possible back into our production flow.

Only 5%

... of the energy needed for primary aluminum production is required when recycling aluminum. By utilizing recycled aluminum, we not only save energy but also make a substantial impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

15%

... of the primary aluminum demand could be eliminated by effectively capturing end-of-life scrap. This action would result in an estimated 250 million tonnes of CO₂ saved annually.

CO₂ zero

... footprint is the ambitious goal set by companies dedicated to recycling post-consumer scrap and embracing decarbonized practices. Their commitment aims to pave the path for aluminum production on an industrial scale, achieving a carbon footprint of zero by the year 2030.

Recycling Film

“How do the panels become recycled when there is a core material between the aluminium sheeting?” It’s a good question, the following Film demonstrates one of the industrial solutions of how this is done.
